My first acting teacher said all art is one thing -- a stimulating point of departure. That's it. And if you can do that in a piece, you've fulfilled your cultural, sociological obligation as a workman. What you're supposed to do is keep people vitally interested in the world they live in. Artists are supposed to be of use, to make people not necessarily happy, but enrich their vitality.

Features

The Applied Chaos web site is open to all artists, craftspeople, writers, musicians, art collectors, and suppliers of superior quality materials and tools. The bookstore, galleries and database of resources are open to all for browsing and purchasing. We ask only that you respect the copyrights of the works that are displayed here; please do not steal people's creations!

The Bookstore

We have reviewed over 700 woodworking titles and culled from that vast resource 79 books that offer genuine value to the fine furniture craftsperson and box-maker. Though at the present the store is rich with wood books, we are continuously evaluating and adding new books to the store in a variety of media, so check back often! Through our association with Amazon.com, we are pleased to offer these books for sale. Just click the titles of books, and Amazon.com will handle the rest!

The Galleries

The galleries feature artists selected from responses to our bi-monthly calls for submissions. The works are unusual or one-of-a-kind pieces in a variety of media. Some work is available for sale, and other pieces displayed are for your enjoyment. Some artists are available for commissions and custom designs. In addition, from time to time, we feature a small selection of poetry, a short story, music, or a short video.

Resources Database

If you are looking for a particular artist, tools, supplies, magazines, or other websites, check out the resources database! And it has even more features, available to registered general members.

Events Calendar

Our events calendar lists exhibits, shows, fairs, classes, and other programs that might be of interest to fine arts crafts people, students, and buyers. Email your calendar listings to calendar@appliedchaos.com. Please include all relevant information: nature of the event, sponsors, dates, locations, directions, contact names, fees. For exhibitions, competitions and shows, please indicate whether or not the show is open for artist's works, and supply the necessary entry information.

Membership

Additional features are available to registered members. There are four categories of membership, plus special features for educators and event planners:
