Membership Information

The registration process is under development, and should be fully functional on March 1. In the interim, please send us an email through the Forum, letting us know of your interest. We will be happy to let you know when all the member services are up and running. Artists are invited to submit work, at no cost for the month of February. Artists, suppliers, and schools, and events planners, please send your listing information through the Forum. Thank-you for bearing with us as we come up to speed!

General Membership

Anyone may browse and buy from the bookstore or galleries, without registering. In addition, a searchable database of suppliers of high-quality materials and tools is open to all for browsing and purchasing. However, registering for a free! General Membership enables you to:

• Read and contribute to discussion groups
• Read and write product reviews in the suppliers database
• Request automatic notification when products, works or artists that interest you are added to the website
• Search a catalog of exhibited work, past and present, using keywords or full text. Search for works by artist, by media, by subject, by item (e.g. table, chair, box) or by material (e.g. cherry, ziricote, lampworked glass, hand-forged hardware, Quick Time movies).
• Create an entry for yourself (if you wish) in our searchable artists database. This database will allow artists to find potential collaborators for multimedia projects, and it will allow collectors and buyers the opportunity to search for appropriate individuals to handle commissioned works.

These benefits are free to all registered members. Registration requires that you enter a valid email address, so that we can do our best to screen out SPAMers and individuals who are unwilling to put their names behind their thoughts.

Artist Memberships

Applied Chaos offers two types of Artist memberships: Artisan, and Exhibiting Artist.

An Artisan membership is $12 a year, and entitles the member to all of the benefits. In addition, the Artist member is:

• eligible to submit work four times a year for consideration for inclusion in one of the galleries.
• for an additional $12 fee, may also submit one work to be included in his or her database entry. This fee is to cover the costs of scanning and storing the image. If the work is text, or a .JPG file is included, this fee will be reduced to $6.
• elect to sell works selected to appear in a gallery. Sales of the work are handled by Applied Chaos, for a 15% commission. Payment is made directly for other selected works such as short stories, QuickTime movies, and JavaBeans. Details will be published quarterly, with the call for submissions.

Once an Artisan's work has been selected to appear in a gallery, that artist is eligible for an Exhibiting Artist membership. For as long as he or she remains in good standing, an Exhibiting Artist can enjoy:

• Permanent, juried, exhibit space in a gallery. Change it as often as you wish. Include any number of pieces. Sales from the exhibit will be handled by Applied Chaos for a 25% commission if you provide electronic copy and images, or 35% if we create the display for you. (The works will still be subject to jury approval, to maintain the standards of the gallery.)

This class of membership costs $125 per year, which is applied toward the first $125 of commissions. (So, it is free if you sell work worth $500 or more each year).

Supplier Memberships

If you make one-of-a-kind hardware, tools, or instruments, or make products that might be an artistic component in someone else's work, consider yourself an artist, and see above.

A basic supplier listing is free with General Membership. Please send listing information through the Forum. We will verify the quality of each supplier entry in the database, and if Applied Chaos and the member artists are pleased with your products, you may be eligible for a supplier membership. For a $12 fee, we offer your choice of an upgraded listing with a link to your website, or an image can be included in your database entry. A fully searchable database of up to 50 of your finest products can be created for a fee of $250, from catalog copy (in electronic form) and digital images provided by you.

We insist that suppliers respect the privacy of our members and refrain from sending them any mail, faxes, or email that they have not requested of you. Thank-you!

Listings are free for schools and instruction. If you are interested in featuring your student's work in Best of Class, please send email to info@appliedchaos.com, and put "Best of Class" in the subject field, or call us directly at (978) 443-6185.
